How and when did you decide to become a designer ?
I’ve developed a painting and drawing skill since I was young and found myself sketching fashion illustrations and dreaming about fabrics and colors.
What was the first piece you ever created and does it correlate with your vision today ?
I can’t remember the first creation since we had art classes at school and I use to take some private ones too, but for fashion i started with myself sketching for my own graduation prom back in 2000
Do your childhood and past experiences inform your designs? How?
We are inspired by everything around us, especially that vintage is back, I sometimes use tones or skins that would introduce a hint of that feel with a contemporary twist.
Do you have any rituals when you design?
I have to be in the mood, a cup of a Turkish coffee would put me in the mood…the weather has to be good…sometimes I create a design in my head while traveling.
When you design a piece, what is important to you ?
I think of the mechanism…how will it be carried, is it a multi-tasking piece? Which occasion would it serve…so I make sure my colors look lavish while they are settled.
What would be your dream material to work with? Why ?
Every season we introduce new materials, such as exotic skins, or new types of leather and satins.
What is your greatest source of inspiration ?
Travel I must say…music and art as well…but mainly it’s the architecture and colors I get to discover while exploring new spots.
If you could choose a muse, who would it be ?
That’s a tough question! Her Majesty Queen Rania would definitely create a classy feel to any piece while Sara Jessica parker and Olivia Palermo would set a new trend to any piece carried.
Who is your favorite designer across all disciplines ?
Honestly each designer has proved themselves in a different area of expertise…you can never beat Hermes finish, Dior designs, Fendi pop art, Valentino whole look, and Celine color mix! Enough?
Tell us your favorite experience of encountering someone you didn’t know wearing your design. Who was it and what was the piece? Where was it? How did you feel?
Well so far I get pictures of VIP customers from the region carrying my designs amongst a lot of bloggers and public figures, it always feels great, but I must say I loved it when I received posts from the Kuwaiti Makeup artist Dalal Al Doub who wore the Bordeaux medium Sharon tote which was a complete success and a best seller! Hoping one day to reach the level of international celebrities carrying Farah Asmar.
